App Store campaign link builder

Add your provider token and a campaign name, and copy a link App Store Connect can report on. Below it, tag your Google Play link the way Google expects: UTMs packed into the referrer. Then, if you like, put both behind one smart link.

  • Copy links without an account
  • Checks Apple’s 30-character rule
  • Play referrer encoded for you
  • Runs in your browser

App Store campaign link

Three values: your app, your provider token (pt) and a campaign name (ct). The builder adds mt=8 and encodes the rest.

Your App Store page, or just the number after “id”. A link that already has pt= fills in the token too.

Optional

Paste the custom product page URL from App Store Connect, or just its ppid. Leave empty for your default page.

Digits only. One number for your whole developer account.

0 of 30 characters

This is the name you will see in App Store Connect.

No provider token yet?

  1. 01In App Store Connect, open Apps, pick your app and go to Analytics. Under Acquisition, choose Campaigns and press +.
  2. 02Make one campaign link there and copy the number after pt=. That is your provider token.
  3. 03It stays the same for every campaign, so from now on you can build the links here.

Your App Store campaign link

Fill in all three fields to get the link.

The campaign shows up in App Store Connect at least 24 hours after launch, and only once five or more people have downloaded the app through it for the first time.

Google Play referrer link

Google Play reads campaign tags from one place: the referrer parameter. Fill in the UTMs and the builder encodes them into it.

Your Play Store listing, or the id value from it.

Optional

The URL parameter you gave the listing in Play Console. Leave empty for your main store listing.

Where the click comes from.

The kind of traffic.

Use the same name as your ct and the two reports line up.

Your Google Play link

Add the app and the three required UTM fields to get the link.

One link for both

Put both behind one smart link

Share one short link instead of two. iPhones get the App Store campaign link, Android phones get the Google Play link, and the clicks are counted in one place.

Every Appy link comes with a QR code, so the same campaign works on a poster too.

Find your campaign in App Store Connect

Open your app in App Store Connect, go to Analytics and choose Campaigns under Acquisition. Each ct value gets its own row: impressions, product page views, downloads, sales and more.

Give it a day. Apple lists a campaign no sooner than 24 hours after launch and only after five people have downloaded the app through it for the first time. Any metric under 5 in the dates you picked stays hidden, so a quick test with two colleagues will not appear.

The ct value in the link becomes the row name. A first-time download counts for the campaign when it happens within 24 hours of using the link.

Google Play

On Android, the UTMs travel inside the referrer

Google Play takes campaign data in a single referrer parameter on the store link. The UTM string goes inside it, URL-encoded, and Google caps it at 512 characters.

After the install, your app can read that string through the Play Install Referrer API. Google keeps it available for 90 days and suggests reading it once, on the first launch. Play Console can also break down acquisition by UTM campaign.

  1. 01

    Your link

    play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=…&referrer=utm_source%3Dtiktok%26…

  2. 02

    Google Play

The person opens the listing and installs the app.

  3. 03

    Your app

On the first launch it reads utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign from the install referrer.

UTM tags added straight to the Play link, outside referrer, are not the format Google documents for campaign data.

Questions about campaign links

What are pt and ct in an App Store link?

They are Apple’s campaign tokens. pt is the provider token: it identifies your developer account and is the same for every campaign. ct is the campaign token, the name you give each campaign, up to 30 characters. The third one, mt, is the media type token; Apple’s own examples use mt=8.

Where do I find my provider token?

In App Store Connect: Apps, then your app, then Analytics. Under Acquisition, open Campaigns and generate a campaign link with the + button. The number after pt= in that link is your provider token. You only do this once, because it stays the same for all your campaigns.

Why don’t I see my campaign in App Store Connect?

Most often it is too early or too small. Apple lists a campaign at least 24 hours after launch and only once first-time downloads come from at least five people. Each metric also has to reach 5 in the date range you selected before it is shown.

Can I use UTM parameters in an App Store link?

You can add them, but App Store Connect does not report on them. Apple’s campaign links use pt, ct and mt, so put the campaign name in ct. Using the same name for ct and utm_campaign keeps your App Store and Google Play numbers easy to compare.

Which characters can a campaign token use?

Up to 30 letters, digits and spaces, plus these symbols: [ ] / \ - ~ + = < > : ; , . _ ' " * & $ % # @ ? ! | { } ( ). It cannot start or end with a space. The builder flags anything else as you type, and to be safe it flags accented letters and emoji too.

Does the country code in an App Store link matter?

No. Apple says a storefront path such as /us/ does not limit the link; people are sent to the App Store of their own country. That is why the builder leaves it out.

How do I add UTM parameters to a Google Play link?

Put them inside the referrer parameter, URL-encoded: referrer=utm_source%3Dtiktok%26utm_medium%3Dpaid_social. The whole value has to stay within 512 characters. Your app reads it after install through the Play Install Referrer API, for up to 90 days.

Can the link open a custom product page or a custom store listing?

Yes. Paste the custom product page URL from App Store Connect, or only its ppid, and the App Store link carries ppid alongside pt and ct. For Google Play, type the URL parameter you set for the custom store listing in Play Console, and the builder adds it as listing=. Apple allows up to 70 custom product pages per app, Google Play up to 50 custom store listings. Leave both fields empty and people land on your default pages.

Can one link open the App Store campaign link on iPhone and the Play link on Android?

Yes. That is what the smart link button does: Appy checks the device and sends iPhones and iPads to the campaign link and Android phones to the referrer link. The free plan includes 4 links with QR codes. On Pro, Business and Enterprise, save your provider token once and Appy adds pt and a ct named after the link to every App Store visit it sends.
